Amazon Is Getting Ready To Launch Digital Currency Project in Mexico

The e-commerce giant, Amazon, is setting its eyes on the digital currency space to create a strong foothold in emerging economies. The tech behemoth is a global leader in online retail, on-demand entertainment, cloud technology and smart home solutions.

The firm has opened job positions that hint that it may roll out digital currency in Mexico.

Amazon Opens Positions for Engineers in Digital and Emerging Payments Project

Amazon has become a household name across the globe when it comes to online shopping. The firm is reportedly planning to launch a digital currency project soon as evident from its website’s latest job postings. A host of new positions have been posted by Amazon where it is reportedly looking for engineers and specialists to build a technical team for rolling out digital currency. The Digital and emerging Payments project, as reported, would facilitate crypto payments for shopping on Amazon. As per the news doing rounds, the service will initially roll out in Mexico.  The job posting elaborated that Amazon is looking for an expert who can help roll out payment product in Mexico. The posting further added that the product would allow the Amazon customers to buy merchandise, products and Amazon Prime Music and Video services with digital currency.

 It is interesting to note that Amazon procured several domains related to cryptocurrency in 2017, as CNBC reported. The news left the crypto observers speculating that Amazon may venture into cryptocurrency space at that time.

Amazon sells Amazon coins on its website, which the users can use for in-app purchases or buy games and apps. The coins listed on Amazon website can be used on Fire tablets, Android device and FIreTV for purchases on AppStore.

The job posting described the upcoming product as “This product will enable customers to convert their cash into digital currency using which customers can enjoy online services including shopping for goods and/or services like Prime Video,” The firm is apparently hiring engineers and developers at all levels to steadfast the product launch. The product is apparently looking for tapping the upcoming economies with the digital currency project. Mexico is selected as the initial launch country.
