Bill Gates Says He is Not Short of Bitcoin
The founder of Microsoft Inc, Bill Gates, appeared in an interview with CNBC this week and expressed his views on Bitcoin and its increasing popularity. He revealed that “I don’t own bitcoin. I’m not short bitcoin.”.
The co-founder of one of the oldest and largest tech firms globally, billionaire philanthropist and highly powerful person in the world, Bill Gates views on Bitcoin can make a substantial impact on the markets. While Bill Gates said that he does not hold any Bitcoin, he clarified that he does not disapprove of the cryptocurrency. He noted that there is a need for digital financial systems and lowering the overall transaction costs. He also mentioned that the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, involved in global scale charitable works, is doing something of the same sorts in developing countries. The much-revered foundation intends to add much transparency in the systems and presses on reducing transaction charges.
Lately, a lot of discussion and debates are happening, keeping Bitcoin and cryptocurrency in focus. Elon Musk, the wealthiest person in the world and founder of SpaceX and Tesla, has shown much affinity towards Bitcoin. He frequently comments on Bitcoin through his tweets and interviews. Recently he changed his Twitter bio to #Bitcoin, creating a stir in crypto markets. While Elon Musk comments on Bitcoin and other cryptos in a rather dramatic manner, Bill Gates has kept it subtle. Gates mentioned that Bitcoin volatility is often based on the underlying mania, and one cannot decipher the reasons behind its price action. He further added that it is quite hard to predict the price of Bitcoin. On Thursday, Bill Gates revealed that he has a neutral view on Bitcoin; however, things were different around three years back. In May 2018, Bill Gates mentioned that he sold Bitcoin he received as a birthday gift from someone. He said that if there were an easy way to short Bitcoin, he would do it.
