Chamath Palihapatiya May Run For Post of California Governor

Chamath Palihapitiya made headlines a few weeks ago when he talked quite bullishly for Bitcoin, claiming it is more than a financial hedge and can become a principal mechanism for value, storage, and exchange.

Billionaire CEO of Social Capital has now made waves as he announced he might run for governor of California.

Chamath Palihapitiya To Run For California Governor

Chamath Palihapitiya, a popular name in the financial and cryptocurrency world, signaled that he may participate in elections to take the much-revered position. He is an avid promoter of Bitcoin and is a leading investor in the country. The CEO of Social Capital tweeted on Tuesday, January 26th, 2021, announcing the purchase of out-of-money call options on GameStop.

In another recent Tweet, Chamath said that he would run for the California governor position in upcoming elections. The tweet included the link to a website, “Chamath for California Governor,” in which he detailed his plan.

The current California governor Newson has not pleased the Californians with his performance yet amid the growing challenges like the Coronavirus pandemic and economic slowdown. There has been displeasure among the public for the slow rollout of the Covid-19 vaccine. There have been several attempts to relinquish Newson of his position as the governor.

 Chamath has also called out for ousting the current governor through a recall vote. He even tweeted $recallGavinNewson. A special election will happen later this year if the recall vote is passed for Newson. The petition in the same case has already reached 1.2 Million signatures. To force the recall, 1.5 million votes are needed by March 17th, 2021. Gavin Newson has created a furor amongst people for being unable to handle matters during Covid with inconsistent shutdowns. Several leading tech firms like Tesla, Shutterstock left California and moved their headquarters to other states. Talking about underlying issues like underpaid teachers, inefficient schools, and expensive livelihood, Chamath called out with a message, “Let’s Move California Forward”. He talked about 0 percent state taxes, higher teacher salary and making California a global center for tech and climate jobs. He also talked about giving free school vouchers and no student loans.
