Trust Wallet, a multi-chain crypto wallet provider, recently released a statement regarding a $4 million theft from one of its users. According to the statement, the cause of the theft was a social engineering attack by an organized crime unit in Rome, rather than a flaw in Trust Wallet’s software. The crime unit had been conducting a string of thefts in other regions like Milan and Barcelona, and had convinced victims to move their funds from a multisig wallet into a new, single-key Trust wallet. The criminals had also shared an NDA pdf file and fake KYC information with the victim, which may have contained malware allowing for funds to be taken. Trust Wallet assured its users that their assets are safe, but urged them to remain vigilant.
